Our Story
Growing up in Philadelphia, I devoured cheesesteaks with friends, family, after school,on weekends…They were a go-to fast food that was better than fast food. When I joined the military and left Philly at 18 years of age, I was in for a culture shock - nobody could make a proper cheesesteak. During my 7 years of Naval service, I visited over 20 countries and countless cities and states in the U.S. There was always an eatery that offered a “Philly” or a “Steak and Cheese.” Just like the name was wrong, so was the food. So when I got out of the Navy in 2001, I knew I wanted to bring an authentic cheesesteak sandwich shop to my new hometown of Key West, Florida.
Amoroso bread company, the oldest and truest of the Philadelphia bakeries, had begun to export their signature bread. I knew I could deliver a delicious, genuine piece of my culture to Key West... and eventually the entire United States of America!
Why Mr Z’s
Since 2002 we have consistently brought award-winning sandwiches to the local and tourist community of Key West, and since 2017 we expanded to central Florida. Now, we are excited to present an opportunity for qualified franchisees... We intend to be the first national Cheesesteak company!
With the Amoroso roll, quality ribeye (or a chicken breast alternative), topped with our famous melted white American cheese, one taste and you will know: It’s an unforgettable taste of Philadelphia! And our simple, yet proven training methods and long track record will integrate well with your staff in your chosen locale.
